Artist Statement

It is known that our society has moved from the industrial age into the information age. Although we refer to the present as the information age the industrial age is still here. The information aspect is just built on top of industry. The reason that it is known as the information age is that we are more exposed to the information aspect because that is what controls industry. This is all of great interest to me because I am striving to become a captain of industry. The one major element in industry that interests me is metal. Metal has done many things for our country and the world all the way from expanding populations west in the introduction of railroads to the airplanes that move us about easily and quickly throughout the country and the world. Metal has connected the world by bringing everything within reach. It has even brought us together instantly with the touch of a keyboard. For all these reasons I have chosen metal as my medium. I have a deep appreciation for it and strive to show how beautiful and elegant it can be. We have always thought of metal as cold, hard and impersonal. I am attempting to change this point of view by showing its true beauty.

Art has always been an outlet for human expression. It is an unspoken communication between one another. With my work, I express how I see the modern world. I see the modern world as something that is simple, clean, and elegant. I want people to know that we can be free from the unnecessary details of design. I am attempting to show this to the viewer by creating refined pieces that are not overly elaborate.

I try to make my work personal and emotional by relating certain pieces to an experience or a person. A piece could be about an actual or conceptual person. I always try to think of ways to relate my work with someone I know or someone I have come across briefly or a vision of a person that I would like to know. If anything, I strive to invoke the senses of the viewer. I want the viewer to experience something new and inspiring.
